Stop fighting the room — the room is information. A spotless studio background tells the viewer nothing; a cluttered desk tells them everything. And rig fast: your subject’s patience is the scarcest resource present. Every minute flagging a light is a minute of candor you won’t get back.
The important note: the gear’s job is to disappear. The moment a subject stops seeing the camera is visible in the footage — shoulders drop, sentences lengthen, the real interview starts. Aim everything at making that moment arrive sooner.
